Who can use Shararat
Shararat is for adults only. You must be 18 or older. We ask for your date of birth before an account is created and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it and its contents.
What we collect
- Your phone number. This is how you sign in. There is no password and no email login.
- What you tell us at signup: your date of birth, and optionally a display name, gender and preferred language.
- Your conversations. The messages you send, the replies you receive, and voice notes and images exchanged in a chat.
- Things a character remembers. Short facts drawn from your conversations so a character can refer back to them. You can clear these by clearing a conversation.
- Usage. Which screens you open, when you open the app, how long a session lasts, and which characters you talk to.
- Your device. Platform, app version, and a push notification token if you allow notifications.
- Payments. What you bought, when, how much, and the payment reference. Card and UPI details are handled by our payment gateway and never reach our servers.
- Consent records. Which version of these documents you agreed to, and when.
- Safety records. Where a message triggers a safety rule, we keep a record of the decision.
What we do not collect
- Your contacts, photo library, precise location, or microphone outside a voice note you deliberately record.
- Card numbers, UPI PINs, CVVs or bank credentials. These go directly to the payment gateway.
- Any special category data we have not asked for. Please do not send identity documents, financial details or health information into a chat.
Why we collect it
- To create and run your account, and to sign you in.
- To generate replies, remember context, and make a character behave consistently with you.
- To take payment, apply your subscription, and honour cancellations and refunds.
- To send notifications you have allowed, and to stop sending them when you turn them off.
- To keep the service safe: detecting abuse, enforcing the age gate, and acting on safety signals.
- To fix faults and understand which parts of the product are used.
- To meet legal and tax obligations.
Where the law requires your consent we ask for it separately and explicitly. Using the app is not treated as consent to anything you have not been asked about.
How your conversations are processed
Replies are generated by a language model. Characters are software. They are not real people, they have no independent knowledge of you beyond what is in your conversation and their stored memory, and nothing they say should be treated as advice from a qualified person.
Your messages are sent to the model that generates the reply, and to a moderation system that checks both what you send and what is generated. Voice notes are produced by a speech provider from the text of a reply. Images shared by a character are generated, not photographs of a real person.
Please do not rely on a character for medical, legal, financial or psychological advice, and do not treat a conversation as a substitute for professional help or an emergency service.
Selling, advertising and marketing
These are the questions the App Store and Google Play require us to answer, so we answer them plainly.
- We do not sell your personal data. Not to anyone, for any price, in any form.
- We do not share your data for anyone else's advertising. No advertising network, data broker or ad exchange receives anything about you.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites. Shararat contains no advertising SDK, no third-party analytics SDK, and no tracking pixel. We do not use the advertising identifier on your device, and we do not ask for permission to track, because there is nothing we would do with it.
- We do not use your conversations for marketing. What you say to a character is never used to decide what to advertise or promote to you, and is never used to build a profile for advertising.
- We do not use your conversations to train models. Your messages are sent to a model to generate a reply and are not used as training data.
We do market our own product to you. If you allow notifications, we may send you messages about Shararat — a new character, a change to your plan, or an offer. To decide who should receive one, we use your subscription status, your platform, and roughly how long ago you joined. We do not use the content of your conversations for this.
You can stop all of it at once: turn off notifications in the app under Profile, or in your device settings. Doing so does not affect your account or your subscription.
Who we share data with, and what they get
We use service providers to run the product. Each acts on our instructions, receives only what its job needs, and may not use it for anything else.
- Cashfree Payments — your phone number and the amount, to take payment and manage recurring mandates. They hold the card or UPI details; we do not.
- MSG91 — your phone number, to deliver your one-time sign-in code. Nothing else.
- Expo, Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging — your device's push token and the text of a notification, to deliver it. Not the conversation it came from.
- Our language model provider — the recent part of the conversation, so a reply can be generated. Not your phone number, your name or your payment history.
- Our speech provider — the text of a reply, so it can be spoken. Not who it is for.
- Our moderation provider — the message being checked, to decide whether it breaches our safety rules.
- Cloud hosting and object storage — the data and media the app stores, encrypted at rest.
We share with nobody else, except:
- When the law requires it. A court order, a lawful demand from an authority, or a legal obligation. We disclose only what is required, and we tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.
- To prevent serious harm. Where we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to prevent an imminent threat to someone's life or safety.
- If the business is sold or merged. Your data may transfer to the acquirer, who would be bound by this notice. We would tell you before it happened and you would be free to delete your account first.
We may publish aggregated statistics — how many people use the app, which features are popular — that cannot identify you or be traced back to you.
What the stores are told
The App Store's privacy label and Google Play's Data Safety form say we collect your contact details, purchases, usage data, device identifiers and user content, and that these are linked to your identity. They also say that this data is not used for tracking, and that the only sharing is with the service providers named above.
If you ever find a difference between what those labels say and what this notice says, tell us — one of them is wrong and we want to know which.
How long we keep it
- Messages, character memory and media shared in a chat: 365 days from creation.
- Usage and analytics events: 365 days.
- Usage counters used for quotas and billing: 730 days.
- Notification history: 90 days.
- Push notification tokens: 180 days.
- Payment webhook records: 180 days.
- Account, consent and payment records: for as long as the account exists, and afterwards only where tax, accounting or legal obligations require it.
Deleting a conversation removes it and its stored memory straight away.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, under Profile. There is no form to fill in and no reason you have to give.
We aim to complete a deletion within 24 hours. It removes your account, your conversations, the memory built from them, media you exchanged, your notification tokens and your usage history. We keep the minimum record of a completed payment that tax and accounting law requires, which does not include your conversations.

Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may:
- ask what personal data of yours we hold and how it has been processed;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected or completed;
- have your data erased, subject to any legal obligation to keep it;
- nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or become incapacitated;
- withdraw a consent you have given, at any time, as easily as you gave it;
- raise a grievance with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if we do not resolve it.
Withdrawing consent does not undo processing that already happened lawfully. Some withdrawals mean the service can no longer work — withdrawing consent to store conversations, for instance, means characters can no longer remember anything.
Grievances
If something about your data is wrong, write to us and say so. We will acknowledge and respond within the period the law requires.

Security
Access to production data is restricted and logged. Sensitive columns are encrypted at rest. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the authorities about a breach affecting you in the manner and time the law requires.
Where your data is held
Data is processed in India and may also be processed by our service providers in other countries. Where that happens we rely on contractual protections and only transfer to countries not restricted by the Government of India.
Apple and Google
The App Store and Google Play are distributors, not operators of this service. They receive purchase and subscription information from your transactions with them, governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. Where you subscribe through a store, that store — not we — holds your payment method.
Changes
If we change this notice we will publish the new version here and update the date below. Where a change materially affects what you agreed to, we will ask you again inside the app rather than relying on this page.
